How to combat the issues Nigeria is facing:
With roughly more than 200 ethnic groups, 500 different languges - Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo - one of the largest populations of both christians and muslims - this little chapel - stands in comparison, as a very small proposal, but one that adresses a fundamental issue of our society - one where we focus on differences, rather than the simple fact that we are all human - no matter ethnic heritage or religious disposition.
Acknowledging this, sheds light on the profane and sacred part of human life. The sacred adresses everything, which is not inherited, that human layer underneath.
The space of the chapel holds an important role as a sacred pocket in the profane - one that momentarily holds the capacity to re-establish the fundamentals of reality.
When we think of a football game, this is what is happening, we have agreed, that when you cross the white line, a different set of rules apply. This momentarily carves out a pocket to an alternative world. The same goes for the little chapel. Here we agree that the illusionary differences we stubbornly identify with dissolves when you enter - accessing that human layer underneath. The central axis of the chapel begins and ends with nature.
If we want to address issues of the present. It is fundamental that we put our differences aside, so we can engage across all assumed boundaries and tackle whatever is at hand.
